Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Days before a crucial set of 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Asia’s big guns have moved up and consolidated their gains in the FIFA Rankings.
The Rankings for June show Japan inching up four spots to 31 while Australia continue to be the top-ranked team in Asia in 29th position (up 3).
Japan’s Central Asian rivals on June 6 Uzbekistan have slipped two spots to 78th. Australia’s opponents Qatar have improved to 94th, up two berths.
Korea Republic, who play the UAE on the same day, are 46th while DPR Korea, involved in a crucial match against Iran, are 106th. There is no change in the positions of these two teams.
Iran are fourth in the Rankings on 52 (up 1).
Asian champions Iraq, who will be in action later this month in the FIFA Confederations Cup, were the biggest gainers in June, zooming to 77th position (up 9).
Kyrgyzstan plummeted 12 spots to 162nd in the 198-team standings.
