Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 27 June, the State Committee for Investment of the Republic of Uzbekistan organized a training seminar for representatives of the territorial units of the committee with the participation of specialists from the National Project Management Agency (NPMA), the Center for Economic Research (CER), the Institute for Forecasting and Macroeconomic research (IFMR).
The event was devoted to discussion and explanation of the methodology for drafting long-term regional development concepts, the press service of the State Committee for Investments of Uzbekistan said.
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, speaking at a videoconference meeting on 21 June, noted that it is necessary to intensify activities to attract and effectively use investments. At the regional, city and district levels, heads of the territorial units of the committee and representatives of local administrations need to contribute to attract foreign investment and provide practical assistance to foreign investors on all issues.
With a view to realizing the tasks set in this direction, long-term concepts for the development of industries and regions are being developed up to 2030. After approval, developed long-term concepts will form the basis for the formation of portfolios of investment projects for a 3-5-year period, which will later be included in the annual state development programs.
Jamol Dadajonov, the head of the department of NPMA, made presentation dedicated to explanation of the methodology for developing long-term regional development concepts.
Jasur Avezov, Head of the State Investment Department, speaking at the event noted that the process of developing draft concepts for the development of the regions will take place in several stages: this is the development of the concept itself, its evaluation by the ministries of economy and finance, sectoral ministries and departments. The final versions of the concepts are coordinated with the NPMA, then they are submitted by the State Investment Committee for approval to the Office of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The regional concepts together with the branch concepts will be a management tool for the further formation of portfolios of investment projects.
As CER experts noted, the heads of local and regional departments need to look at the existing infrastructure, economic management and the available resource base in terms of the development potential, the needs of the local population and the interests of potential investors.
All participants of the event were sent a prepared methodology for developing long-term regional development concepts for further use with established tasks.
