Uzbekistan to allocate US$200 million for tourism development

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan plans to open a credit line in the amount of US$200 million to finance projects in the tourism sector.

This is stipulated by the decree of the President of Uzbekistan “On measures to significantly increase the flow of foreign tourists to the republic and further enhance domestic tourism.”

According to the document, US$50 million will be allocated from funds allocated to finance projects within the framework of family business development programs.

The Tourism Committee will raise another US$150 million from international financial institutions and foreign financial organizations.

The document notes that 50% of the funds will be allocated in national currency. Up to 200 million soums will be allocated for swimming pools on the territory of accommodation facilities. The loan term will be 3 years, including a 12-month grace period. The interest rate on loans will be the main rate of the Central Bank plus 4 percentage points.

To create tents (campsites), entrepreneurs can receive a loan of up to 100 million soums, yurts - up to 300 million soums, eco-houses - up to 500 million soums, containers - up to 600 million soums, hostels - up to 1 billion soums and glampings - up to 1.5 billion soums, modular hotels and car camping camps (at least 10 car campsites) - up to 3 billion soums. For these purposes, the loan is allocated for 5 years (with a 12-month grace period).

The document notes that 50% of the tourism credit line is allocated by commercial banks in national currency for the construction of modern water parks in the amount of up to 10 billion soums. The loan will be provided for 10 years.
