Uzbekistan Opens the Door for the Next Generation of Central Asia Public Health Leaders through FETP Intermediate

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in collaboration with Uzbekistan Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiologic Welfare and Public Health, proudly launched the Central Asia Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) Intermediate course. This marks a significant step towards strengthening the public health workforce in Central Asia.

The FETP Intermediate is a  9-month program designed to equip public health professionals with the specialized skills and knowledge needed to effectively respond to emerging threats and improve population health outcomes. Today’s launch brought together distinguished guests, including representatives from the Ministry of Health from five countries of Central Asia – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan – and highlighted the program’s objectives, curriculum, and potential impact on public health in Central Asia region.

“The health of our nation rests on the shoulders of our public health workforce. The FETP Intermediate Course is an investment in our future, and the future of public health in Uzbekistan. By training skilled and dedicated leaders…we are well-prepared to protect the health and well-being of our citizens for generations to come.” – notes Dr. Bakhodir Yusupaliev, Chairman of Uzbekistan Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiologic Welfare and Public Health.

This collaboration between the U.S. and the participating countries of Central Asia exemplifies the shared commitment to strengthening public health capacity. By fostering knowledge exchange and collaborative learning, this program not only empowers Uzbekistan’s public health workforce, but also contributes to a more robust and coordinated regional response to public health threats.

“This collaborative learning environment will not only strengthen individual expertise but also foster regional partnerships, ultimately leading to a more united front against public health threats.” – says U.S. Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission Paul Poletes in his opening remarks.
