Uzbek President Islam Karimov arrived in Turkmenistan on 18 October. Karimov was given an official welcome.

The Uzbek president, Islam Karimov, and Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow held a one-to-one meeting in which they extensively discussed the present state and the future of relations between the two countries. In particular, issues relating to the further strengthening of ties in areas like agriculture and energy were considered.

The discussion of these issues also continued at a later meeting where other members of the two delegations were present.

A host of important documents aimed at making the partnership stronger were signed at the end of the talks.
