Share of services in Uzbek GDP makes up 48.5%

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Share of service sector in gross domestic product (GDP) of Uzbekistan reached 48.5% in the first quarter of 2011 against 46.4% in the same period of 2010, the Ministry of Economy and the State Statistics Committee said in a joint material.

The adopted measures helped to increase total volume of service by 12.6% year-on-year in the reporting period, the document said.

Some 1,200 enterprises were commissioned in retail trade and catering, which allowed to increase these types of services by 15.2%. Some 90 personal service firms were launched and they ensured 17.3% growth of the volume of personal services.

The service development developed fast in rural areas. Over 843 retail trade enterprises, 43 catering firms and 74 personal services companies were launched, which helped to create 30,400 new jobs.
