Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The death toll from a magnitude 5.1 earthquake in Indonesia has reached 310, Reuters reported on Friday.

According to the Indonesian authorities, another 24 people are missing, more than 1 thousand local residents were injured as a result of the disaster.

The agency also reports that more than 7 thousand people are still unable to return to their homes due to the consequences of the natural disaster.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located 74 km southeast of the country’s capital, Jakarta. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, the source occurred at a depth of 5 km.

Indonesia often experiences earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis due to fault lines in the Pacific Basin. A powerful earthquake and tsunami in 2004 claimed the lives of almost 230,000 people.
