Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Experts from the Institute for Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research (IPMI) have ranked the popularity of world indices.
The analysis is based on identifying the number of queries on the Google platform over the past 5 years. Google Trends has now become an essential tool for many companies and researchers around the world. With Google Trends, you can determine which words users are most interested in over time.
Google browser is the most used search engine on the planet today. According to NetMarketShare, in December 2018, the Google browser accounted for 77% and 86%, respectively, of desktop and mobile users. For this reason, Google trends faithfully reflect web search queries. Google launched this tool in May 2006 and released an extension called Google Search Insight in August 2008. In 2012, these two tools were combined to create the current version of Google Trends.
The results showed that in the ranking of popularity, the Human Development Index is the only leader among the selected indices. This is because the general public uses this index as an alternative indicator of development. Secondly, this indicator is used as a basis for calculating many other indices and ratings.
The Democracy Index is in second place. This may be due to the fact that democratic values have the highest priority among the universal values of today.
The third place belongs to the Global Innovation Index. It is clear that many are interested in the state of innovative development of countries, believing that the basis for development today is not natural resources themselves, but their efficient use.
The Global Competitiveness Index, Economic Freedom Index, and Global Governance Indicators ranked as follows. These indices are considered comprehensive and attempt to capture many areas of development in a single figure.
The State Risk Assessment, the Inclusive Growth Index, and the World Press Freedom Index are slightly behind in popularity. Therefore, the fact that an index is widely known in the press does not mean that it is really recognized. Naturally, when it is necessary to pay attention to one of the two indices, it is more correct to pay attention to the more recognized one.
In general, it was found that the indices reflecting the legal status and the level of corruption are more popular than the indices of industrial development, economic stability and e-government.
Finally, given a large number of different indices and the limited resources available, targeted efforts to improve a country’s position in them must also take into account the prevalence and popularity of these indices.
In Uzbekistan, criteria and indicators of priority international ratings that allow measuring the quality of governance and policy effectiveness, assessing the transformation processes taking place in the country, and developing priority areas for reforms are an integral part of the National Monitoring System.
