Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 31 May 2020, a local incident between residents of the border regions of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan occurred on the Chashma section of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz State border.
The study of the causes of the incident by officials of both parties showed that as a result of the dispute that arose during the joint treatment of outflows of water (aryks) of the Chashma spring, a conflict occurred between individual citizens of the two countries.
As a result of the incident, there are victims on both sides. They received the necessary medical assistance.
As a result of negotiations between the leaders of the border regions of the two countries, the situation was taken under full control. The parties agreed to continue not to carry out cleaning work without prior approval.
It should be noted that the Chashma spring provides drinking and irrigation water to both residents of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic. Taking into account mutual interests, there is an agreement on the joint use of the Chashma spring.
On 1 June 2020, at 09:00 a.m., a meeting was held between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Aripov and the acting Head of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic K. Boronov.
During the meeting, a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation was discussed. The parties agreed to develop cross-border cooperation and resolve issues arising at the border in the spirit of friendship, good neighborliness and strategic partnership, as well as in accordance with the provisions of the Agreement between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic on confidence-building measures in the border region, signed on 6 October 2017.
The Heads of Government agreed to hold a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and the Council of Khokims of the border regions of the Republic of Uzbekistan and plenipotentiaries of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in the border regions in the near future.
The heads of delegations of the two countries also held a joint meeting with the local population.
