An exhibition about the Aral disaster the unique nature of the Aral Sea region opens in the USA

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26 February 2019, an exhibition of photographs and paintings about the Aral ecological disaster and the unique nature of the Aral Sea region was opened at Columbia University, one of the oldest universities in the United States.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, the exhibition was initiated by the World Aral Region Charity, created by students of Columbia University and supported by the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to the UN.
The first spectators, including students, faculty members of the Harriman Institute of Columbia University, as well as representatives of the Uzbek diaspora, were presented to about 20 paintings and photographs, including those made by a group of students of this university during their visit to the Aral Sea region on 8-20 March 2018.
Aral, the Student World Charitable Foundation, is raising money for various environmental projects in the Aral Sea region. The practical implementation of the cooperation was the visit of students of Columbia University to Uzbekistan last spring, during which they planted more than 2,200 fruit trees and poplars in the settlements of Shavat, Buyrachi (Khorezm region) and Muynak (Karakalpakstan).
Also from 30 May to 6 June, a trip was organized to the undergraduates of the School of Public Administration and International Relations of the University, during which they familiarized themselves with the cultural and historical sights of the ancient cities of our country, social, economic and educational reforms carried out in the republic established contacts with peers from educational institutions of Uzbekistan.
On 11-23 March 2019, a group of Foundation students again plan to visit the Aral Sea region, during which they, together with representatives of local governments of Karakalpakstan, intend to install filtration systems aimed at cleaning groundwater from salts and other toxic substances. In addition, as part of the visit, a group of students envisions a number of educational programs and other projects related to the Aral problem for high school students in local schools.
