Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting of the Security Council at the Situation Center of the Academy of the Armed Forces on 10 January, the press service of the head of state said.
The meeting was held on the eve of the 26th anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Defenders of the Motherland Day, which are celebrated on January 14.
During the meeting, the participants discussed issues of reforms in the army and ensuring the security of Uzbekistan.
The head of Uzbekistan noted that our Armed Forces should become a school of true courage and high patriotism, a forge of high quality personnel for all government agencies, institutions and enterprises.
The President said that from now on, at least four times a year, there will be sudden checks of combat readiness. He added that today the speed of bringing the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan to combat readiness is 3 hours against the previous 5 days.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that, taking into account the provisions of the Defense Doctrine and the geostrategic location of our country, the structures and tasks of the military districts have been radically revised.
"In particular, the structure of all units of the Ministry of Defense has been completely revised and updated. We, at last, resolutely moved away from the structure, which did not allow units to fully engage in combat training, strengthen the professional skills of servicemen, and be ready to perform tasks for their intended purpose,” the head of Uzbekistan underlined.
“I want to draw attention to a number of problems connected with the physical and psychological training of our servicemen. In my opinion, physical training for servicemen should be one of the main components of official activity, military career, lifestyle in general,” he added.
"Regarding the psychological stability of servicemen, it should be noted that, as recent armed conflicts in different regions of the world show, the main losses in the course of combat operations among personnel are associated with a great psychological stress,” Uzbek head said.
“In this regard, the heads of the power ministries and departments should develop fundamentally new documents on organization of physical and psychological training of servicemen of all categories, placing special emphasis on its military-applied orientation. Servicemen should have good health, be tough, able to withstand difficult physical and psychological stress,” the head of state said.
The President also noted that it is necessary to strengthen work to strengthen the social protection of servicemen, their families and veterans.
The focus of our constant attention should be on the system analysis of the real needs of the troops, increasing their level of equipment with modern weapons and equipment, the head of state said.
"In this regard, the Ministry of Defense, the State Committee for Defense Industry should fully implement a comprehensive program for the modernization and equipping of troops with modern weapons and military equipment, designed for 2018-2021," the President said.
