Uzbek official elected as member to the committee of UNECE Convention

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Representative of Uzbekistan was elected as a member of the Implementation Committee of the UNECE Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes for the first time, Uzbekistan Foreign Ministry said.
The seventh session of the Meeting of the Parties to the UNECE Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes was held on 17-19 November 2015 in Budapest, Hungary. The delegation of Uzbekistan attended the event.
The meeting was attended by representatives of 74 countries and the European Commission, Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the OSCE, the Global Water Partnership, the Scientific Research Centre of the Interstate Coordination Water Commission (SIC), the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC), basin organizations, NGOs and academia.
The participants of the meeting discussed the prospects for cross-border cooperation in the framework of the Convention and its role in achieving sustainable development as well as implementation of other global initiatives for the period up to 2030.
During the event, the election of the Implementation Committee of the Convention was held. For the first time, representative of Uzbekistan was elected as a member of the most important structure of the Secretariat of the Convention.
Activity of Uzbekistan in the Committee on the implementation of the Convention will provide an opportunity to work more closely with the UNECE in the framework of international legal mechanism in the context of the principled position of Uzbekistan for the rational and equitable use of water resources in Central Asia.
