Uzbek President holds talks with World Bank officials

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Vice-President of World Bank for Europe and Central Asia Cyril Muller and Vice-President of International Finance Corporation (IFC) Dimitris Tsitsiragos on 6 November 2015.
Cyril Muller and Dimitris Tsitsiragos arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in the International Investment Forum in Tashkent.
During the meeting, the World Bank Group representatives underlined important of strategic programmes on further reforming, structural reforms and diversification of economy for 2015-2019, adopted in Uzbekistan and directed at further deepening reforms in economy, further modernizing and diversifying industry, developing private property and entrepreneurship, as well as decreasing role of state in economy.
The guest expressed interest of the World Bank and IFC in active participation in processes of cardinal structural reforms in economy of Uzbekistan and expressed their support in successful realization of programmes and investment projects in key industries, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan said.
At the meeting the sides exchanged opinion on priorities of bilateral cooperation and discussed key directions of further expanding partnership relations and development of new projects in perspective directions.
Uzbekistan established constructive cooperation with the World Bank and in the result 28 projects for US$6 billion were realized. The contribution of the World Bank made up US$2.6 billion. The projects were realized in such spheres an electricity, modernization of irrigation and utility systems, water supply, development of production, transport and social infrastructure.
Currently, World Bank is completing preparation of Country partnership programme for 2016-2020, which envisages realization of 30 projects for over US$4 billion in such spheres as electricity, oil and gas, transport, healthcare, education, ICT, communal infrastructure, etc.
Uzbekistan and the IFC, which implements projects for development of private sector, implemented some 20 projects with investments of the IFC for US$135 million.
The sides are developing perspective projects in petrochemical, chemical, alternative sources of energy and financial sectors.
