Azimov: Uzbekistan eyes annual 8% growth of GDP

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan is planning to achieve average annual growth of the gross domestic product (GDP) at the level of 8% in 2015-2020, Rustam Azimov, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Uzbekistan Rustam Azimov said at the International Investment Forum in Tashkent.
Rustam Azimov said that Uzbekistan plans to achieve average annual growth of the GDP at the level of 8% due to realization of programme of modernization of economy.
He said that Uzbekistan implements projects for over US$51 billion to modernize industry, transport infrastructure and improve transit potential.
Azimov recalled that Uzbekistan completed a project on construction of Ustyurt Gas Chemical Complex on production of polyethylene and polypropylene. Uzbekistan also constructs plant on production of synthetic fuel, chemical complex on production of olefins, as well as plant of pyrolized petroleum.
The realization of the programmes will allow to achieve average annual growth of industrial production by 9% in 2015-2020. At the same time, the share of industry in GDP will reach 30% (24% in 2014).
Azimov said that the government will remain as main reformer. He said that the Government does not believe to “magic hand” of the market, which, as latest crisis showed, can lead to deep crises if not controlled by the government.
Uzbek official said that the government should be main reformer. He noted that the Government undertook responsibility for wide-scale and structural reforms in Uzbekistan and this helped to transform country from agriculture country to dynamically developing and modernized economy with diversified industrial structure.
