Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan suggests a collaborative study of glaciers in the mountains of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan with use of aerial survey, Uzbek Environmental Protection State Committee specialist Muhammadjon Hojayev said.
He noted that Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan has not conducted aerial surveys of glaciers since 2000. “For this reason there is no exact information on condition of glaciers. Aerial survey of glaciers will be helpful to forecast the situation”, the official said.
Muhammadjon Hojayev noted that observations in Uzbekistan show sustainable trend of warming. Air temperature in Uzbekistan grew by 1.5 degrees for last 50years. He said that humidity of air is growing, while atmosphere transparency is falling. Glaciers melted by 23%.
RIA Novosti reported that estimated assessment showed that glaciers at Western Tian-Shan can decrease by one third by 2020 compared to 1980. The tempo of glacier melting makes up from 0.2% to 1% a year.
By 2050, the water resources of Amudarya river can fall by 10-15% and Syrdarya – 2-5%. It is expected that water loss will grow due to its evaporation in irrigation zones.
