Over 500 projects to be implemented in Surkhandarya region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan plans to start implementation of over 500 projects in economy in Surkhandarya region in 2014, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said at his speech at the extraordinary session of the Council of people’s deputies of Surkhandarya region.
Uzbek head said that in 2014 the country plans to start realization of 14 projects worth US$15 million in sphere of light industry.
Islam Karimov said that in cooperation with British partner new textile plant with the cost of US$10 million will be created in Jarkurgan district. The plant will annually produce 22 million square meters of high quality fabrics.
President Islam Karimov said that modern textile complex will be constructed in Kumkurgan, Denau and Shorchi districts till 2016. In the result, the volume of cotton processing in Surkhandarya region will increase up to 22% by 2017 and some 6,000 new jobs will be created.
In next two years, Jarkurgan refinery will invest US$70 million to modernization, which will allow to increase capacity of the plant till 250,000 tonnes a year.
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said that some US$102 million will be directed to development of coal industry. The resources will be directed to construction of modern complex with the capacity of 900,000 tonnes on the base of coal fields Shargun and Baisun. The project will be financed due to loans of the Chinese Eximbank.
He said that new enterprise on production of 48 types of wall materials and 17 types of non-ore materials will be launched in Surkhandarya region.
Islam Karimov underlined that the volume of industrial production in the region will grow almost 1.5 times in the result of implementation of these projects in2013-2015.
