South Korea to support Uzbekistan’s solar energy project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and South Korea will cooperate in implementation of the project on construction of solar energy station in Samarkand region.
First deputy Prime-Minister of Uzbekistan - Minister of Finance Rustam Azimov and Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korean Yoon Sang-jick signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU).
Within the document, South Korea and Uzbekistan will jointly set up and operate a test site for solar energy farms. The two sides will also form a joint task force within a month made up of officials of the two governments, institutes and companies.
The Government of Uzbekistan is also planning to attract US$75 million loan of the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) to construction of the station.
Uzbekistan started to realize a project on construction of a 100-megawatt solar power plant in Samarkand.
The project cost is US$371 million. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) provided a loan for US$110 million for power plant construction in November 2013.
