Alcohol prices to hike in Uzbekistan from 2014

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan will increase minimal wholesale and retail prices for alcohol, excluding beer, from 1 January 2014.
New prices were approved by joint resolution of the Ministry of Finance and the State Tax Committee of Uzbekistan from 6 December 2013.
According to the resolution, the minimal wholesale price for wine for producers makes up 3,300 soums per liter (now 2,750 soums), while minimal retail price – 4,000 soums (3,350 soums). The growth rate makes up 20%.
The minimal wholesale price for vodka and other alcohol products rose by 25% - from 6,250 soums to 7,800 soums per liter, a retail price – from 7,600 soums to 9,500 soums (+25%).
The minimal wholesale price for cognac increased from 6,250 soums to 9,400 soums per liter, while retail price jumped from 7,600 soums to 11,400 soums. The growth rate made up 50%.
Last time, alcohol prices in Uzbekistan rose on 1 January 2013. The prices rose by 25% at that time.
According to the legislation, it is banned to sell alcohol products at the price lower than set ones. The violation of the rules will lead to fines, while responsible people will be attracted to responsibility.
