French envoy, Uzbek higher education minister hold talks

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education of Uzbekistan Bakhodir Hodiev received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Uzbekistan Jacques-Henry Heuls on 29 October 2013 to discuss current state and perspectives of the university cooperation between Uzbekistan and France.
Uzbek Minister said that currently 18,000 students are studying in Uzbekistan’s 40 universities. He underlined his satisfaction with cooperation, in particular, between Tashkent Architecture and Construction Institute and National School of Architecture of Versailles.
In his turn, Ambassador said that the agreement of cooperation between French and Uzbek universities are developed in the result of the visit of the rectors of the French universities to Uzbekistan in March 2013, including in law and tourism spheres.
He underlined that it is necessary to develop teaching of French language in regional universities, including in tourism cities such as Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva, which are visited by about 15,000 tourists from France a year.
France annually accepts 300,000 foreign students annually, of which 10% are foreign tourists. Currently, about 200 students study in France. Recently, Campus France has been opened in Tashkent, which will inform students on education opportunities in France.
