Uzbek banks help to revive 156 bankrupt enterprises

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As of 1 September 2013 the commercial banks of Uzbekistan accepted 171 bankrupt enterprises to their balance, the press service of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan said.
The main part of these enterprises is companies with debts and with the value of less than US$2 million. But the enterprises can produce competitive products both for internal and external markets. The banks directed 442.6 billion soums to modernize them and re-equipment.
In the result of the investments, some 156 enterprises rehabilitated their activities and created over 25,000 new jobs. Currently, 122 enterprises were realized to strategic investors.
As of 1 September 2013, the revived enterprises produced goods for2.3 trillion soums and exported products for US$631.9 million.
The Central Bank underlined that managing companies and separate structures of the banks contributed to improvement of conditions at the enterprises. Among such companies are NBU Investment, NBU Invest Group, Asaka Investments, Agroinvest Recovery and PSB Industrial Investments. These companies managed companies, conducted market research and effective used property, etc.
It is worth to mention that the Government of Uzbekistan provided tax preferences to these enterprises.
Currently, the commercial banks have 49 enterprises in their balance, of which 34 launched high technological production and works are underway to sell them to investors. Other 15 enterprises are working on updating their capacities and construction-assembly works.
The Central Bank of Uzbekistan said that the commercial banks will continue to participate in reforming national economy, modernization and re-equipment of the enterprises, as render financial support.
