Number of Hajj-2013 pilgrims to be decreased

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan started a work on decreasing number of pilgrims of Hajj-2013 season, the press service of the Committee on religious affairs under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan said.
The committee said that the Government of Saudi Arabia adopted decision on decreasing number of Hajj-2013 pilgrims and officially notified about the decision all countries, including Uzbekistan.
The decision was adopted in connection with improvement of infrastructure of Mecca and Medina to provide more comfortable services to Hajj and Umrah pilgrims.
According to reports, Saudi Arabia decided to cut number of pilgrims by 20% for all countries due to reconstruction of Kaaba and expansion works at Jeddah and Medina airports.
The Committee on religious affairs said that Uzbekistan already started work on decreasing number of Hajj-2013 pilgrims. Special commissions in places are working on this issue.
Earlier, it was reported that over 5,000 citizens of Uzbekistan will conduct Hajj pilgrimage in 2013. The committee did not disclose updated number of pilgrims for Hajj-2013.
The committee said that the people, who were not able to conduct pilgrimage, will carry out pilgrimage in 2014.
The committee noted that citizens received this news with understanding. It added that people, who are able to conduct Hajj pilgrimage next year, are giving their place to elder people.
According to the data of the committee, over 90,000 Muslims from Uzbekistan carried out Hajj pilgrimage and 77,000 people – Umrah pilgrimage in last 22 years.
