Uzbek envoy to be vice-president of 68th UN General Assembly

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the United Nations has been appointed as the vice president of the 68th General Assembly, which kicks off in September 2013.
The UN Radio said that Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations was also appointed as the vice president of the 68th General Assembly.
Along with other representatives of other regional groups, they will head sessions of the General Assembly, when the president will be on leave.
Last Friday, the General Assembly elected by acclamation John William Ashe, the Permanent Representative of Antigua and Barbuda to the United Nations, as President of its sixty-eighth session.
Currently Dilyor Khakimov is Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the United Nations, which started his tenure in March 2013.
At this post, Dilyor Khakimov replaced Murad Askarov, who headed Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to the UN from 2009 to March 2013. In March, Askarov was appointed as Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan.
Prior to appointment, Dilyor Khakimov headed Department for USA and America at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.
