Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Committee of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan on industry, construction and trade held a session dedicated to execution of programmes directed at increasing the volume of production of fruits, vegetables and grapes, raising effectives of their processing and export potential of the industry.
MPs, heads of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management, Association of Enterprises of Food Industry, Uzvinosanoat-holding, experts and others participated at the session.
It was said that the presidential resolutions “On measures aimed at reforming the horticulture and viticulture” from 11 January 2006 and “On measures for the further development of wine-growing in the country” from 13 March 2013 are important factors for further expanding wide-scale reforms in the area in the country.
Currently, Association of Enterprises of Food Industry unites about 150 enterprises, specializing in processing fruit and vegetables, and grapes. Last year, Uzbekistan processed 843,000 tonnes of vegetables, over 350,000 tonnes of fruits and 270,000 tonnes of grapes. The growth rate made up 8% year-on-year n 2012.
The industry attracted investments for US$13.7 million in 2012 and created 21 enterprises, including 700 jobs. Some seven enterprises were modernized and production of 24 new products were launched. Among them are sweet corn, canned green peas, produced by Euro food trade, walnut jam, carrot and eggplant caviar of Agromir.
At the event, the participants considered issues of modernization and update of Uzvinosanoat-holding and launch of production of new competitive products.
Uzvinosanoat-holding has 150 enterprises and they produced goods for 682 billion soums and consumer goods for 999 billion soums. In cooperation with investors from the USA, Germany, Bulgaria and Israel, some 20 joint enterprises were created and production of over 1,000 new goods was launched, UzA reported.
In 2013-2015, it is planned to implement investment projects for 135 billion soums. It is planned to launch production of fruit juices, soft drinks and tinned products. These projects will help to create new jobs and increase their exports.
At the session, the participants developed proposals and recommendations on further improving system of management of food industry in Uzbekistan, attract foreign direct investments, increase production of quality goods and expansion of the volume of exports, etc.
