Uzbekistan sends letter to UN complaining to Talco plant

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UN Dilyor Khakimov sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, which was disseminated as a document of the UN General Assembly.
The UN News enter said that the letter attracts attention to worsening of ecologic situation in northern districts of Surkhandarya region, which is located near borders with Tajikistan.
The letter said that trans-boundary pollution, caused by harmful industrial emissions of Tajik aluminum plant Talco, create threat to ecologic safety, source of income and sustainable development in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and other countries.
He said that the scale of negative impact of industrial activities of Talco to environment, health and gene pool and ecologic system of the region reached unprecedented level.
Dilyor Khakimov said in his letter that it is necessary to end negative impact to emissions of Talco.
