Lord of British Parliament visits Senate of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15 May Lord Waverley, an independent member of the House of Lords and the Chairman of UK All Party Parliamentary Group on Uzbekistan, held a meeting at the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
During the negotiations it was noted that cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UK has been consistently developing in many areas, including in parliamentary ties and both parties are interested in further enhancing and strengthening interaction in this sphere. The documents in diverse spheres, signed by our countries, serve as an important legal basis for strengthening mutually advantageous partnership.
The issues of further developing inter-parliamentarian ties were discussed during the meeting at the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, UzA reported.
– Interparliamentary relations between Uzbekistan and the UK have been developing consistently,– said Lord Waverley. – We intend to strengthen legal basis for developing cooperation of diverse organisations and agencies, supporting information and experience exchange within interparliamentary dialogue, providing regional security and stability, enhancing political, commercial, economic and investment cooperation, as well as further strengthening cultural ties.
The signed Memorandum of understanding between the Group of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on cooperation with the UK Parliament and UK All Party Parliamentary Group on Uzbekistan serve to further widen and strengthen relations in this area, to increase political, economic and social relations.
Lord Waverley also held negotiations at the Ministry of foreign affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
About 438 enterprises, established jointly with British investors operate and representative offices of 86 UK firms and companies are opened in Uzbekistan. The parties consider implementation of joint high-tech projects as one of the priority directions of cooperation.
