Uzbekistan marks Day of Remembrance and Honour

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan marked the Day of Remembrance and Honour on 9 May. The events dedicated to the 68th anniversary of victory over fascism were held across the country.
President of Uzbekistan visited Honour Square in Tashkent and put wreath to the monument of Grieving Mother, UzA reported.
The Uzbek President paid tribute to the people, who died in the war in 1941-1945. The war and labour veterans, Senators, MPs, military officials, public representatives and other participated at the event.
Uzbek President said that Uzbekistan marks great historic event – the 68th anniversary of victory over fascism. He added that in all cities and rural areas of Uzbekistan, people pay tribute to those, who did not returned from war.
“It gives me great pleasure to sincerely, from my heart to congratulate with this great date all war participants. Also, I wish you health, long life to all veterans and those, who worked in the rear and in extremely difficult conditions, and made a huge contribution to the victory "- said Islam Karimov.
Islam Karimov said that all should consider the cost of the victory for Uzbek national and number of victims and losses. He said that the Uzbek people will not forget about consequences of the war.
He said that about 6.5 million people lived in Uzbekistan before the war and 1.5 million participated at the war. Uzbek leader said that about 500,000 Uzbek people did not return from war and thousands were missing, while many others returned with injuries. He said that this shows the price paid by the Uzbek people for victory over fascism. He said no body and no one should forget about this.
Uzbek President also underlined that war in Afghanistan also threats to peace and stability of Uzbekistan and Central Asian region.
He said that international politicians rate current situation in Afghanistan as hard and highly explosive. Many recognize that the war cannot be ended with military force.
Single solution to the crisis is political, he said. The peace should be achieved through negotiations. The crisis could be solved through creation of interim government, hold elections and start to solve problems of Afghanistan, he said. He added that some forces within Afghanistan and outside pursue own interest and are against solution of the crisis via political way.
Uzbek President said that foreign countries started to pull ISAF forces from Afghanistan and this create new confrontations and further escalation of conflict in the country. Such situation can create tension and problems in neighbouring countries with Afghanistan, Karimov added.
Uzbekistan has clear policy in relation with Afghanistan, he said. Uzbekistan supports policy of non-interference to internal affairs of Afghanistan and non-participation in military-political blocks against Afghanistan and cooperate with the country only on bilateral relations, supported elected government of Afghanistan.
