Food production in Uzbekistan hits 5.028 trln. soums in Jan-Sep

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Implementation of measures on raising competitiveness of food industry helped to increase the volume of foodstuff production by 7.2% year-on-year in nine months of 2012 to 5.028 trillion soums, the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said.
In particular, in the reporting period Uzbekistan increase output of edible sunflower oil (8.1 times), canned dairy products (4.2 times), confectionery (3 times), tinned fish – 1.6 times and tinned fruits and vegetables (1.4 times).
At the same time, the country increased production of margarine by 13.3%, tea – by 14.1%, sugar – 5.4%, dry milk for children nutrition – 1.8%.
In the reporting period, juice production increased by 64%, soft drinks – 20.2% and sparkled water – 3.4%, the committee said.
In January-September 2012, the growth of alcohol products was also achieved. The country increased Champaign production by 39.7%, cognac – 31.3%, wine – 24.5%, vodka and alcoholic beverage – 6.7%, ethyl alcohol – 8.5% and rectified alcohol – 8.4%.
