Uzbekistan burns 710.7 tonnes of drugs

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Law enforcement bodies of Uzbekistan destroyed 710.7 tonnes of drugs in one of the plants in Tashkent city.
In line with the order of the Government, the National Security Service of Uzbekistan burnt 497 kg of heroin, 49.2 kg of opium, 162 kg of hashish and 2.5 kg of koknar.
Representatives of the UNODC Regional Office in Central Asia, as well as state and public organizations, diplomatic corps and the media participated in the ceremony.
The National Drug Control Information and Analytical Center under the Cabinet of Ministers said that 4,584 drug-related crimes were recorded in Uzbekistan in the first half of this year.
In total, 2,457 kg of drugs were seized from the illegal circulation in the country in January-June 2010 compared to 1,820 kg in the same period of last year.
