Legislative Chamber reviews amendments to the law on the transit of special cargo and military contingents

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has conceptually reviewed a draft law in its first reading on amendments to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the Transit of Special Cargo and Military Contingents.”

In recent years, Uzbekistan has been systematically working to expand transit transportation volumes and develop its logistics infrastructure. However, the need has arisen to address gaps in national legislation and improve the regulatory framework in the transport sector.

Under the current law, a decision on granting or denying transit permission must be made within 30 days from the date of application submission, with the possibility of an extension if necessary. However, the law does not specify clear grounds for such extensions or establish a maximum extension period.

The draft law proposes reducing the decision-making period for transit permits to 20 days from the date of application receipt. If necessary, this period may be extended, but for no longer than one month.

Additionally, the draft law sets the validity period of a transit permit at up to 90 days.

The adoption of this law is expected to increase transit transportation volumes, strengthen the country's logistics system, eliminate legal gaps, and improve transport legislation.

Following extensive discussions, deputies approved the draft law.
