Japan allocates US$215,000 for new medical projects in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 9 January, a grant contract signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan as part of Japan’s government program "Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects to Ensure Human Security."

The event was attended by the Minister of Health Asilbek Khudayev, Japanese Ambassador Takashi Hattori, and representatives from medical institutions in Tashkent and the Bukhara region.

Three projects were signed, with a total of approximately US$215,000 allocated for their implementation.

The first project involves the purchase of gynecological, endoscopic, and arthroscopic equipment for the Bukhara branch of the Republican Center for Emergency Medical Care, with a grant amounting to US$111.7 thousand.

The second project aims to purchase an endoscopic equipment set and a surgical aspirator for the Republican Perinatal Center, with a grant of US$75.8 thousand.

The third project includes the procurement of equipment for treating ear, nose, and throat diseases for the Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Children’s Oncology, Hematology, and Immunology, with a grant of US$27.8 thousand.

Since the inception of the "Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects to Ensure Human Security" program in Uzbekistan in 1995, Japan has supported over 425 projects in areas such as healthcare, education, and agriculture. With these new grants, the total assistance exceeds US$28.56 million.
