From the new year, old-style driver’s licenses to be considered invalid

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From 1 January 2024, old-style driver’s licenses will be considered invalid. This was reported by the press service of the Road Safety Service of the Department of Public Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

According to the Road Safety Service, the old driver’s license is valid until 31 December of this year inclusive. In other words, the process of replacing old rights with new ones will come to an end at the end of 2023.

From 1 January 2024, the old driver’s license will become invalid. Drivers who did not have time to replace their license for a new one can do this without fines or exams at all registration and examination offices of the road safety service until 31 December.

If the driver drives a vehicle without a new type of license, an administrative protocol will be drawn up in relation to her or him under Article 135 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility of Uzbekistan (Driving vehicles by persons who do not have documents envisaged by traffic rules).

New driver’s licenses and technical passports were introduced in Uzbekistan in October 2017. Initially, it was planned to complete the replacement of driver’s licenses and technical passports by 31 December 2020. In the spring of 2020, the period was extended for a year, and in November 2021 - until the end of 2022. The deadline was later extended until the end of 2023.

At the beginning of January 2023, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan stated that more than 2 million drivers in Uzbekistan did not replace their old driver’s licenses with new ones.
