Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The wife of the President of Turkey, Emine Erdogan, will meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which began today in Baku, Azerbaijan, Anadolu Agency reports.
As Chair of the UN Advisory Board on Zero Waste, Turkey's First Lady will also participate in several programs at the conference.
During her meeting with the UN Secretary-General, discussions will focus on combating climate change and addressing environmental issues, with a special emphasis on the "Zero Waste" initiative led by Emine Erdogan.
The First Lady will inform the UN head about the activities of the UN Advisory Board on Zero Waste.
Additionally, a meeting between Emine Erdogan and UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner is planned.
Emine Erdogan is also scheduled to meet with young climate volunteers at an event titled "Environmental Education," organized in cooperation with the Zero Waste Foundation, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and Uzbekistan’s Zamin International Public Foundation.
As part of the program, the First Lady will take part in a tree-planting campaign in Azerbaijan’s Shamakhi district.
COP29 will also feature the opening of a joint pavilion, the "Solidarity Center." This pavilion, part of the "Zero Waste" project initiated by Emine Erdogan, Chair of the UN Advisory Board on Zero Waste, and supported by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, led by Azerbaijan's First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, will be located in the public "Green Zone" of COP29. It will be accessible to conference participants, private sector representatives, and NGOs.
The 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) is taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11–24. Climate finance will be one of the key topics of the conference. Conference halls will be set up in temporary zones at and around the Baku Olympic Stadium.
