Attacks on diplomatic and other missions are absolutely unacceptable - Foreign Ministry’s spokesman

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Akhror Burkhanov condemned the missile attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria.

“We strongly condemn the air attack on the Iranian consulate building in Damascus (Syria), which resulted in several deaths and destruction on the territory of the diplomatic mission,” wrote a representative of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry on his Telegram channel.

“We consider an attack on diplomatic and other missions of foreign states to be an absolutely unacceptable event and a gross violation of the foundations and principles of international diplomatic law,” Akhror Burkhanov emphasized.

On Monday evening the Israeli Air Force carried out an airstrike on the Iranian Consulate General in Damascus. As a result of the attack, the building was destroyed. The building also housed the residence of Iranian Ambassador to Syria Hossein Akbari. The Iranian ambassador was not injured in the strike.

Iran’s ambassador to Damascus, Hossein Akbari, said six missiles were fired at the building by Israeli F-35 fighter jets.

According to a statement by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), seven IRGC officers were killed during the Avivudar. Among them are two senior general advisers: Mohammad Reza Zahedi, commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force in Syria and Lebanon, and his deputy, Brigadier General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi.

Syrian Health Minister Hassan al-Gabbash said that four Syrian citizens were killed in the attack and another 13 were injured.
