Accessible environment for people with disabilities being created at Tashkent Airport

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of the reconstruction of Tashkent International Airport, special equipment is being installed to ensure accessibility for people with disabilities, reports Uzbekistan Airports.

In the arrival and departure halls, tactile technical aids will be installed to create an accessible environment for the visually impaired and blind. Information terminals will be adapted for all categories of disabilities, using Braille, sound guidance, systems for the hearing-impaired, sign language interpretation, and screens for specialized videos. The setup will also include tactile pictograms, indicators, sound and tactile mnemonic schemes, and help call buttons.

Tactile ground indicators will be used to mark safe pathways, indicate starting points, changes in direction, and warn visually impaired individuals about obstacles and hazardous areas. Entry points to the airport terminals will be equipped with help call buttons, allowing passengers with disabilities or those needing additional assistance to summon specialized airport personnel with necessary equipment (wheelchairs, stretchers, etc.) to escort those with limited mobility.

These measures are part of the Presidential Decree of Uzbekistan, dated July 18, 2024, "On Additional Measures for Creating a Favorable and Accessible Environment for People with Disabilities."
