Uzbekistan adopts measures on protecting confidential information by issuers

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan adopted a regulation on organization of protecting confidential information by issuers. The Center for securities market under the State Property Committee of Uzbekistan adopted decree to approve the regulation on 24 December 2009.
Ministry of Justice registered the decree on 24 February 2010 and it will come into force on 6 March 2010.
The document was developed in line with the law “On securities market” and determines order on organization of protecting confidential information by the issuers. The regulation is not extended to commercial banks and insurance companies.
The regulation said protection of confidential information by issuers is carried out to prevent leakage, theft, loss, distortion, blockage, falsification of confidential information and other unauthorized access to them, etc.
The document said control over protection of confidential information entrusted to responsible personnel, which is appointed by the issuers’ management.
The regulation noted that issuers should develop and implement instruction on information security, use technical means and software to protect confidential information and adopt other measures envisaged in the legislation.
The confidential information should be kept in metal closets or safes, which have firm bolts and sealed in non-working hours, the document said.
The document said confidential information is handed over to people, which is allowed to work with them in line with the decree of the issuers’ management. The confidential information can be used only in work premises.
The document also regulates issues of accessing confidential information by employees, control over protecting confidential information, use of ICT and others.
