Uzbekistan elected as President of the UNWTO General Assembly and a member of two committees
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The 68th meeting of the European Commission of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is taking place these days in Sofia, Bulgaria. It is attended by a delegation of Uzbekistan headed by First Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Ulugbek Agzamov.
At today’s prestigious event, which takes place in Sofia, elections are held for a number of competent bodies of the organization. It is gratifying that, following the results of the elections, Uzbekistan was recognized as the winner in three nominations.
In particular, the international organization granted Uzbekistan the authority to chair the 25th anniversary session of the UNWTO General Assembly.
Delegating these official powers, the leadership and members of the UNWTO highlighted the preparatory work carried out by Uzbekistan to hold the 25th anniversary session of the UNWTO General Assembly, as well as the ongoing reforms in the country in the development of tourism.
Uzbekistan was also admitted to the Committee on Credentials of the UNWTO Executive Board for the next term 2023-2027. This means that the authority to monitor compliance with the principles and the legitimacy of the participation of Member States in important decisions and documents adopted by the UNWTO Executive Board is vested in Uzbekistan.
In addition, Uzbekistan was elected to the Committee of Affiliated Members of the UNWTO for the period from 2023 to 2027. This committee, which includes more than 500 private organizations, associations in the field of tourism around the world, opens up great opportunities for our country.
As part of the event, the participants were also presented with a presentation "Samarkand - the new tourist gates of Uzbekistan." We remind you that on 16-20 October 2023, the 25th anniversary session of the UNWTO General Assembly will be held in Samarkand.
