Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ministerial consultations on interaction in the information sphere were held at the CIS headquarters in Minsk, Belarus.
Inter-MFA consultations on the topic "On interaction of the CIS member states in the information sphere" took place on 30 November at the headquarters of the Commonwealth in Minsk.
The consultations were attended by representatives of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and the CIS Executive Committee.
In an interview with reporters, the director of the department for humanitarian cooperation, general political and social problems of the CIS Executive Committee, Alexei Sazonov, noted that today the Commonwealth has to deal with a large amount of negative information and fake news. Their main task is to discredit the integration processes and devalue the achievements of 30 years of work within the CIS. “We can only resist this together. In our countries, there are enough information resources to conduct counter-propaganda work, there is a common understanding of the priorities, the acuteness of certain topics. We consider it important to promptly convey to journalists the points that are important for us,” says Aleksey Sazonov.
As an example, he cited the situation with attempts to distort the history and results of the Second World War. Thanks to the joint efforts of the Commonwealth countries, this problem is not hushed up, the world community is able to bring reliable information about the culprits and true heroes of this war, significant victory dates. Within the framework of the CIS, the International Association of Historians and Archivists has been created, one of the tasks of which is to preserve the historical truth about the events of those years.
At the meeting, the participants in the consultations exchanged views on the forms, methods and specifics of information support for foreign policy activities and interaction with the media, including the problems of work in this area in modern conditions. We dwelt in detail on the role of digital diplomacy in working with public opinion.
Representatives of the information departments of the foreign affairs agencies of the Commonwealth countries exchanged views on the possibilities of countering the spread of deliberately false information and experience in practical response to fake news.
At the consultations, special attention was paid to the consideration of issues of increasing the efficiency of information support for significant events in the CIS space, as well as coordinating the approaches of the Commonwealth member states at international platforms.
In addition, the meeting touched upon the topic of promoting deeper cooperation between national media against the backdrop of gradual adaptation to work in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
