Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A round-table discussion on “Prospects for the development of long-term cooperation of Central Asian countries” organized by the Institute of Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held at the “Development Strategy” Center.
The event discussed the results of the second Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of States held recently in Tashkent and the expected results.
On the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, friendly relations and mutually interested cooperation with neighboring countries are being strengthened. Cooperation between the states in trade, economic, transport and communication, energy, cultural, humanitarian and tourism spheres is expanding.
Kazakhstan is considered the main trading partner of Uzbekistan. In 2018, the volume of trade between our countries increased by 50 percent and exceeded US$3 billion. In January-October of this year, this figure amounted to US$3 2.9 billion.
The intergovernmental commission on bilateral cooperation is operating effectively. With the participation of the capital of Kazakhstan in our country, 766 were created, in Kazakhstan with the participation of residents of Uzbekistan - 200 enterprises. The volume of transportation of goods by road and rail has increased. Between the major cities of our countries, bus routes and air flights are established.
Relations with Kyrgyzstan are expanding. In 2018, the volume of bilateral trade exceeded US$481 million. In January-October this year, this figure was US$703 million. There is also an intergovernmental commission on bilateral cooperation. In Uzbekistan, representatives of Kyrgyzstan created 150, in Kyrgyzstan, representatives of our country - 51 enterprises. Interregional relations and industrial cooperation are developing sequentially.
Recently, cooperation with Tajikistan has intensified. So, if in 2018 the volume of trade between our countries amounted to more than US$3 389 million, then in January-October of this year, this figure increased by almost 30 percent and made up US$3 408 million. An intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation has been formed. Two countries have dozens of joint ventures. Also expanding ties in the cultural, humanitarian and tourism sectors.
The Consultative Meeting of the Heads of States of Central Asia is a noble initiative aimed at further strengthening the atmosphere of good neighborliness and friendship between peoples.
At the international conference “Central Asia: One Past and Common Future, Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Mutual Prosperity” held in November 2017 in Samarkand under the auspices of the United Nations, our President put forward an initiative to hold this meeting regularly, which is of great importance in uniting the efforts of countries region in addressing pressing issues. And this initiative was supported by all states and international organizations.
The meeting held in Tashkent provided an opportunity to comprehensively consider promising areas for the further development of trade, economic and investment relations, transport and communications, agriculture, industrial cooperation, ecology, energy, tourism, science, culture and sports.
According to experts, the initiatives put forward by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of States are: firstly, programmatic and ambitious, secondly, aimed at solving specific issues of regional cooperation, and thirdly, their implementation will provide an opportunity for the active development of the region.
According to experts, the initiatives of the head of our state to hold an Investment Forum of Central Asia and the first meeting of the chambers of commerce of Central Asian countries, the creation of a regional Council for Transport Communications will contribute to the further development of trade and economic relations between the countries of the region. Consulting company Boston Consulting Group (USA) reported that as a result of the development of regional cooperation over the next 10 years, it is forecasted to attract investments in the region in the amount of up to US$170 billion.
In Central Asian region, much attention is paid to the development of tourism. According to the results of research conducted in this direction, the number of tourists wishing to visit the ancient cities on the Great Silk Road is growing. At the same time, most of them hope to introduce a single visa to the countries of Central Asia.
The participants of the event emphasized the importance of developing cultural and humanitarian cooperation in strengthening interstate cooperation. The population of the countries of the region highly appreciated the proposals of the President of our country on the establishment of the Central Asia Prize for significant achievements in the field of science, culture and art, organization of university forums and regional sports games. Such events will contribute to the further development of a common culture, customs, traditions of the peoples of Central Asia and the strengthening of friendship among the youth of the region.
Experts noted that the necessary condition for stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan - the continuation of socio-economic assistance to this country - is an important step in combining actions in the fight against modern challenges and threats.
At the meeting of the heads of state of Central Asia, a Joint Statement was adopted. The President instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan to develop a “Road Map” before the next Consultative Meeting in coordination with the ministries of foreign affairs of Central Asian states.
