A delegation of Uzbekistan takes part in the Sixth Committee of the session of the UN General Assembly

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 28 October - 1 November 2019, in New York, a delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan took part in the meeting of the Sixth Committee (on legal issues) of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, issues of progressive development and codification of international law were discussed in a multilateral format, in particular, the results of the work of the International Law Commission were examined, and a report of the UN International Court was heard. A meeting was also held between the heads of the legal services of the foreign affairs agencies of the organization’s member countries.
During the meeting, in order to maximize the interests of Uzbekistan in the formation of norms of general international law and promote the position of the republic on issues included in the agenda of the Sixth Committee, the Uzbek delegation made statements on the following topics:
- Peremptory norms of general international law (jus cogens);
- General principles of law as one of the main sources of international law within the meaning of Article 38 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice;
- Crimes against humanity;
- Immunity of state officials from foreign criminal jurisdiction.
