Uzbekistan delegation attends UN regional meeting in Geneva

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 29-30 October 2019, a delegation of Uzbekistan, consisting of representatives of the Scientific and Practical Research Center "Oil" under the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of the Interior, took part in the regional meeting "From commitments in Beijing to transforming results to 2030 “Gender equality in the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe region.”
According to the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan in Geneva, the event was attended by delegations from more than 150 UN member states.
During the two-day review meeting “Beijing +25,” a number of issues were considered, including the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which provide for the promotion of equal participation of women in all spheres of life.
The Uzbek delegation familiarized the participants with the measures taken to expand and strengthen the role of women in the socio-economic life of the country. It is noted that in recent years, the republic has made significant progress in ensuring the rights and interests of women. Uzbekistan was one of the first in Central Asia to ratify a number of UN conventions and the International Labor Organization, such as “On the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women”, “On the Protection of Maternity”, “On Discrimination in the Field of Labor and Occupation” and other documents.
As part of their stay in Geneva, the delegation of our country met with the head of the UN Women regional office, Aliya Yassir. The issues of developing cooperation on the implementation of joint projects and research on family issues and further expanding the participation of women in the socio-economic life of Uzbekistan are discussed in detail.
