The event was attended by over 300 scientists from leading research centers of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, the United States and other countries involved in the problems of the Eurasian region.
In his welcoming speech, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United States, Javlon Vakhabov, emphasized that Central Asia is a region with huge industrial, resource and intellectual potential, which is becoming increasingly important in the system of international economic relations. In this regard, its capabilities should be the subject of comprehensive research and analysis.
Within the framework of the conference, an exhibition-fair of unique products of artisans from Central Asian countries was held, at which designer accessories and handmade clothes made in the national style, ceramics, decor items, souvenirs and much more were presented.
Following the forum, an agreement was reached to initiate the next conference in Tashkent in June 2020.
The event participants praised the modern development of Uzbekistan and its role in enhancing cooperation in Central Asia.
Thus, the Director of Central Asian Programs at the Elliott School, Marlene Laruelle, welcomed the new political atmosphere of trust and good neighborliness in the region, which, in her opinion, was the first summit of the heads of Central Asian states in Kazakhstan on March 15, 2018, initiated by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Former US Ambassador to Uzbekistan Pamela Spratlen called the large-scale transformations in Uzbekistan in all spheres of life very important. “The country has made significant progress in ensuring human rights, promoting religious freedom and eradicating child labor. This can be confirmed by representatives of civil society, including Human Rights Watch and other organizations involved in religious freedom,”she emphasized.
The former US ambassador to Uzbekistan, George Kroll, emphasized the importance of deeply studying and understanding the lifestyle, culture, and aspirations of the peoples of Central Asia in order to increase the effectiveness of US policy in the region. He noted that the United States of America is extremely interested in stability, prosperity, strengthening security, political and economic modernization of Central Asia and seek cooperation with governments and peoples of the region in order to achieve these goals.
