Uzbekistan becomes a party to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26 September 2019, the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, adopted in Stockholm on 22 May 2001, entered into force for the Republic of Uzbekistan. The purpose of this international treaty is to protect public health and the environment from the effects of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).
In accordance with the provisions of the Convention, the parties undertake to control the production, import, export, disposal and use of POPs, and also to promote the use of the best available technologies and methods for replacing existing POPs.
The participation of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Convention will improve the environmental situation associated with POPs and prevent possible negative consequences for the population, the environment, flora and fauna.
To date, 183 countries in the world are parties to the Convention.
