Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 August 2019, the Chargé d’Affairesaires of Japan, Mr. Atsushi Suda, and the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr. Shukhrat Vafayev, signed Exchange Notes at the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan as part of the Government of Japan gratuitous assistance program for the “Providing Fellowships for Training” (JDS) project in the amount of 263 million yen (about 2.48 million US dollars).
Japan provides support to Uzbekistan in the steady implementation of reforms in the field of economy and public administration, as well as promoting democratization. The JDS project provides young public servants with the necessary funding to obtain a master’s or doctoral degree at a Japanese university.
The current Exchange Notes have been signed to enroll students in 2020 and a maximum of 15 undergraduates and 2 doctoral students will be selected in the near future. The implementation of this project will allow specialists responsible for the future of Uzbekistan to acquire professional knowledge and, applying them to the development of the economy and society of Uzbekistan, deepen understanding of Japan, as well as contribute to the further development of friendly relations between the two countries.
