President of Uzbekistan pardons 65 convicts

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 27 August, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree “On clemency of a group of prisoners who sincerely repented of their deeds and firmly embarked on the path of correction”.
According to the decree, the head of Uzbekistan in connection with Independence Day pardoned 65 citizens serving sentences in places of imprisonment for committing a crime, sincerely repenting of their deeds and firmly embarking on the path of correction.
In particular, 17 people are completely released from punishment. Another 13 people were released on parole. In accordance with the decree for 20 persons, sentences were commuted to milder ones.
The president has reduced the sentences of 14 people. One person is released from punishment in the form of restriction of freedom.
The head of Uzbekistan has pardoned four women. Among the pardoned — one person over 60 years old and one citizen of a foreign state. Also 39 citizens, who participated in the activities of banned organizations, were pardoned.
