Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Switzerland will return US$133.7 million to Uzbekistan, frozen on the accounts of the daughter of the First President of Uzbekistan – Gulnara Karimova. This was stated in the message of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the country.
The statement notes that the Prosecutor General’s Office of Switzerland has found evidence of a scheme for illegally collecting large sums of money from companies, especially foreign companies wishing to enter or continue their activities in the market of Uzbekistan.
The funds were laundered abroad, mainly in Switzerland. The Prosecutor General’s Office noted that as a result of the investigations conducted, the first sentence was passed. Funds in the amount of US$133.7 million in the form of lost assets will be returned to Uzbekistan.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Switzerland stated that a relative of Gulnara Karimova was convicted, who opened accounts on behalf of companies in order to break up remittances into parts, to avoid identifying the origin and actual purpose of the funds.
