Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – The Prosecutor General’s Office made comments on reports that Said-Abdulaziz Yusupov was tortured.
On 10 May 2019, Said-Abdulaziz Yusupov was detained on suspicion of committing a crime under paragraph a) of part 4 of Article 168 of the Criminal Code and placed in the detention center of the State Security Service.
On 12 May, the Investigation Department of the State Security Service made charges against Mr Yusupov with a criminal case as an accused, a preventive measure in the form of detention was applied to him.
According to the conclusion of the Tashkent city branch of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Forensic Medical Examination of 16 May 2019, S. Yusupov has a disease of the blood vessels, however, his health does not preclude the use of a preventive measure in the form of detention and participation in the conduct of investigative action.
On 7 June 2019, the mother of the accused S.Yusupov, Z. Bakaeva, during her admission, by the leadership of the Prosecutor General’s Office, stated that during the investigation, her son was subjected to torture, in connection with which she asked for a medical examination of her son.
On 8 June, the General Prosecutor’s Office, with the participation of lawyer A.Shaimardonov and the prosecutor supervising the investigation, D.Rakhmatullaev, conducted a medical examination of S.Yusupov with the involvement of medical specialists. During the examination of the body of the accused S.Yusupov, no injuries or signs of torture were found.
Yusupov, in the presence of his lawyer, A. Shaimardonov, voluntarily explained in writing that during the investigation, there was no physical or psychological effect on him, and he is currently taking medications in a timely manner and is undergoing the necessary medical procedures related to disease.
