Shermatov: Silence shouldn't mean that we agree on addition of Russian as another official language

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Silence should not mean that Uzbekistan agrees on recognition of Russian languages as another official language, Minister of Public Education of Uzbekistan said in his post on Facebook.
A group of scholars called to recognize the Russian language as the second official language of Uzbekistan.
The Uzbek Minister recalled that this year, Uzbekistan will mark the 30th anniversary of recognition of Uzbek language as official language. He said that the country should focus on celebration this event, but instead the country is silence on proposals of the scholars.
“Silence should not mean that we agree on addition of the Russian language as the official language of Uzbekistan,” he said. The Minister added that silence does not meet that this is position of the state.
Shermatov said that Uzbekistan selected its own independent path and the country will not move away frim it. “Currently, we all should learn Uzbek language and be proud of nation and culture,” he added.
At the same, the Uzbek Public Education Minister called people to learn foreign languages along with the Uzbek languages.
“We should be proud of our own language and nation to develop our country,” he added.
