Issues of enhancing investment and trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Norway discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 10 April 2019, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United Kingdom organized a meeting in the form of a video conference of representatives of leading Norwegian companies in the production of building materials, renewable energy, the fishing industry, information and communication technologies (ICT), tourism, and also the Norwegian-Swedish Chamber of Commerce with Uzbek partners.
Responsible specialists of the Ministries of Investments and Foreign Trade, for development of information technologies and communications, the State Committee for Development of Tourism, Uzstroymaterialy, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mirzo Ulugbek Innovation Center and Inha University made a detailed presentation on the opportunities created in Uzbekistan for foreign investors.
Special attention was paid to sectoral programs for development of ICT in the country, tourism infrastructure, existing potential in the production of building materials.
The issues of participation of Norwegian and Swedish companies in the implementation of investment projects in Kashkadarya and Namangan regions were discussed. In particular, interest was shown in the construction of affordable housing in Uzbekistan and expressed willingness to share experiences in this area.
Also the participants also discussed implementation of joint projects in the field of solar energy generation through the introduction of new technologies.
Norwegian companies expressed their willingness to develop a project to introduce the latest IT technologies in the curricula of specialized universities of Uzbekistan, as well as cooperate with leading Uzbek IT companies working in the field of artificial intelligence and data processing.
In addition, agreements were reached on the study of the implementation of joint projects in the production of building materials with the involvement of Norwegian advanced technologies and experts.
In particular, the CEO of the Norwegian company Chimgan Corporation Kent Voltters noted that at present representatives of business circles of foreign countries, including Norway, are showing an increased interest in the investment and trade and economic opportunities in Uzbekistan, especially in the regions.
Following the event, an agreement was reached on organizing a business mission to Uzbekistan in the fall, which will include representatives of leading Norwegian companies to negotiate with potential Uzbek partners for the implementation of joint investment projects in various sectors of the economy.`
