Experts from Americas to take part in the work of the upcoming regional forum in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15 February 2019, Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to the United States Javlon Vahabov met with representatives of the US expert and analytical circles, who will take part in the international conference “Interconnectedness in Central Asia: Challenges and Opportunities”, which will be held on 19-20 February in Tashkent.
The forum will be attended by the head of the administration of the Organization of American States (OAS), Gonzalo Conca (Uruguay), RAND Corporation, Central Institute Asia and the Caucasus with the Council on American Foreign Policy, Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Center for Strategic Studies for the Middle East and South Asia (NESA) under Universityof National Defense, Center for Caspian policy (CPC), Center for International Cooperation at New York University, the Center for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies at the University of Toronto (Canada).
During the meeting, the ambassador brought to the participants of the upcoming conference the conceptual foundations of a new era of regionalism in Central Asia and expectations from the upcoming Tashkent forum.
In particular, it was emphasized that such historical milestones as the unanimous adoption by the UN General Assembly of the Resolution "Strengthening regional and international cooperation to ensure peace, stability and sustainable development in the Central Asian region" in June 2018, holding of the International Conference on Security and Sustainable Development in Central Asia under the auspices of the UN in November 2017 in Samarkand and organization of the first consultative meeting of Heads of State of the Center on the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev Asia in March 2018 in Astana laid a solid foundation for the further development of regional cooperation.
In this context, the Tashkent Forum aims to deeply understand the current dynamics and prospects for further cooperation in Central Asia, to thoroughly discuss the new opportunities opening up and the remaining obstacles to the deepening of cooperative ties.
In turn, the experts declared the relevance and timeliness of the organization of this important forum in Uzbekistan, which firmly established the role of a “driver” of a new wave of regionalism in Central Asia. Analysts reiterated Washington’s support for the regional aspirations of Tashkent and its neighborhood policy, which, in their opinion, is evidenced by the provisions of the official statement of the presidents of Uzbekistan and the United States in May 2018.
In particular, it stressed the importance of “a strong and independent Central Asian region”, supported the initiative of the head of Uzbekistan to convene the leaders of the Central Asian countries for a joint dialogue that would open up the potential of interregional trade and help develop joint approaches to solving common problems. “President D. Trump acknowledged the key role of Uzbekistan in these important processes,” the statement said.
An agreement was reached on organizing a briefing at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Washington on the results of the participation of American and Canadian experts in the Tashkent regional forum.
