Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Specialized school with advanced study of the German language No. 60 in Tashkent was named after the great German poet and thinker Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
On 15 January 2019, a solemn ceremony took place at the specialized school No. 60 in the city of Tashkent named after Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov, the Reprsentative of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Christopher Fuchs.
The ceremony of awarding the specialized school No. 60 of the city of Tashkent named after Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was held on the eve of the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Germany.
Germany is one of the key partners of Uzbekistan in Europe. Relationship between countries is strengthening. Of course, language is one of the important factors for strengthening relations between countries and peoples.
Today, in the Republic of Uzbekistan, in 1677 schools, more than 355 thousand students study German as a foreign language (+ 54 schools compared to the 2017-2018 school year). About 3 thousand teachers of the German language work in secondary schools of the republic. In 9 schools, German is studied in depth.
Compared with the 2017-2018 school year, in the 2018-2019 school year, the number of German-language schools increased by 54 schools, the number of specialized schools with advanced German language increased from 4 to 9, the number of classes taught German increased from 14081 to 14525 (a difference of 444), and the number of students learning German increased from 340560 to 355064 (a difference of 14504).
The Ministry of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan is cooperating with the Goethe-Institute branch in Tashkent and the Central Office of Schools Abroad of Germany (ZfA) to develop and improve the system of learning German in secondary schools as part of the Schools: Partners of the Future initiative.
At present, the Goethe- Institute is supporting six secondary schools (No. 112 in Tashkent, No. 19 in Urgench, No. 9 in Khiva, No. 4 in Bukhara, No. 23 and 4 in Andijan) in expanding the study of German or its introduction as a school subject.
Cooperation has been established between the ZfA and 6 secondary schools of the republic (No. 60 of Tashkent; No. 107 of Tashkent; No. 51 of Samarkand; No. 4 of Bukhara; No. 6 of Margilan; No. 10 . Fergana).
Partners from Germany provide modern multimedia textbooks and materials on country studies, as well as technical teaching aids that support schools in ensuring the high quality of German language teaching in the form of teacher training courses.
As part of advanced training courses organized in Germany in 2018, 17 teachers from Uzbekistan took part, who at this time are engaged in teaching German language in schools.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov noted that at the initiative of the leadership of Uzbekistan several secondary schools with in-depth study of the German language in Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara will be named after the great ancestors of the German people, such as Goethe, J. Schiller and Wilhelm von Humboldt.
“Undoubtedly, this initiative is aimed at further strengthening the relations between Uzbekistan and Germany in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, as well as popularizing the German language in Uzbekistan,” the minister said.
